What was your career journey before working at Naimuri?
I left school at 16 and did lots of different jobs including farm work, petrol station cashier and computer operator for a television rental company (yes that was a job!).
I joined Lancashire Police Force in 1992 and completed 30 years service before retiring.
I did everything from beat bobby, specialist tactical officer and new recruit law trainer, before working up the promotion ladder and eventually becoming a Chief Superintendent responsible for a large territorial division. I also specialised as a firearms commander and major incident operation commander.
Another role I undertook (working closely with Naimuri's lan Billsborough) was head of digital transformation, which is where my interest in IT came from.
I sat on the national Police Technology Board & Council, where we advised the government and national IT policing programmes on what policing needed from a technology perspective.
What excites you most about working in this industry?
How the development of technology can make a huge difference in keeping people safe.
Policing is only scratching the surface of robotics and Al/ML, and together with the development of physical tech could transform policing, making it more effective, efficient, transparent, and publicly accountable - AND keeping officers safe whilst they risk their safety for the rest of society.
Since you have started working, how has this industry evolved?
When I joined the police there was very little technology - the internet was in its infancy and mobile phones were only for the very rich!
During my service, IT automation and technology enabled crime increasingly became part of our role and by the time I left the force we had dozens of systems and applications to investigate and manage crime and support every type of role (HR, finance, property mgt and admin) and most crime investigations involved technology related evidence (digital devices, online, video, bodycam, cctv etc.)
How do you feel about the growth of AI and how can it support the work we deliver?
Our work at Naimuri is showing how Al can benefit policing, analysis and insight, removing tedious and laborious repeatable tasks, proactive monitoring and identification of CCTV, risk prediction, redaction of video exhibits etc...
The list seems endless!
How would you describe Naimuri?
A small dedicated tech company that cares about its people, with a mission to make the UK a safer place, with all the important skill sets and capabilities under one roof - and a free coffee machine :)
Tell us a little about your ambitions for this role
Working with the Sector Lead and wider BD team (across sectors), connecting with new customers in our market, developing, broadening relationships with our existing customers and creating new opportunities to show customers what we can do.
Getting our capabilities more broadly known and capitalising on our successes will inevitably help us to connect with law enforcement to bring more effective solutions as we grow our work across the Homeland Sector.
