Love, Safety, Freedom: A Conversation on Pride with Red Parker
As we celebrate Pride Month at Naimuri, we are shining a spotlight on the voices, reflections, and lived experiences of our team members.
Pride is a time for celebration, but it is also a vital moment for reflection on how far we’ve come and the journey that still lies ahead.
Today, we sit down with Red Parker, a Software Engineer who recently joined the Naimuri family, to talk about what Pride means to them, the importance of tech sector advocacy, and the power of authentic workplaces.
Pride in three words: Love. Safety. Freedom.
For Red, the entire spirit of Pride can be distilled into three powerful pillars: love, safety, and freedom.
While Pride is a vibrant celebration, Red reminds us that it is deeply rooted in an ongoing journey of societal progress.
"Pride Month is about remembering how far we have come as a society in improving acceptance and support for LGBTQ+ individuals and communities," Red shares.
"But it’s also acknowledging there is still a distance to go in fighting to keep those positive steps and continue moving forward."
As a company that delivers mission-critical software and works closely with the government, Red believes Naimuri has a unique responsibility to stand up for values like LGBTQ+ rights.
"Particularly given the political climate in recent years both in the UK and wider international concerns, it is especially important that Naimuri speaks out about these causes."

Bringing your whole self to work
Starting a new role can always be daunting, but Red hit the ground running, giving Naimuri a 5/5 rating for feeling able to bring their whole, authentic self to work.
Despite being new to the team, Naimuri’s people-first culture has already made a lasting impression.
- Mentorship that matters: "Seeing the strength of the mentorship program and the passion for people behind it is wonderful."
- Active DEI spaces: "Seeing how active the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) power group is has made me feel more comfortable being myself, even in my first few weeks with the company."
When asked what truly makes a workplace inclusive, Red’s answer is simple yet profound:
"Feeling comfortable to speak up for yourself and others and fostering an environment where people don’t have to."
A packed pride calendar (and some great pop culture!)
Red isn't missing a single beat this Pride season. Their plans for reflection and celebration cover every base:
- Attending local community events and parades.
- Engaging in community work and volunteering.
- Taking time for quiet reflection and learning about LGBTQ+ history.
- Spending time with loved ones.
- Participating right here in Naimuri-led activities.
When looking for inspiration, Red draws from a mix of historical and contemporary trailblazers, naming computing pioneer Alan Turing, iconic actor and activist Sir Ian McKellen, and comedian/writer Mae Martin as major influences.
And as for their favourite piece of LGBTQ+ media?
The nostalgic, groundbreaking classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer takes the top spot.
Words of wisdom for the ally-ship journey
True ally-ship doesn't stop when June ends.
For those looking to support the LGBTQ+ community year-round, Red offers clear, actionable advice:
"Call out people being disrespectful. Actively work to improve your own understanding and acceptance to make people feel safe."
Red also highlights the power of visibility, noting that seeing LGBTQ+ representation in media helps people accept themselves and feel stronger in their identities.
Finally, if Red could go back in time and give their younger self one piece of advice about identity, it would be this:
"You don't have to understand everything about your identity. It's okay to learn and grow into yourself over time."
